A relaxing walk to enjoy the markets and monuments of Palermo city center, following the strong smell of spices and fried food and tasting the traditional Sicilian “street food”. Born with the Arabs, Sicilian ancient markets preserve their Arab roots intact in contemporary Sicilian culture: the displays of fresh and fruit, oranges above all, exotic products, spices and olives will remind you of middle-eastern markets. Wonderful are the ample fish trays with large swordfish that dominate the scene. An important stage of this truly Sicilian experience will be the street food tasting. The uniqueness of Palermo’s street food doesn’t simply lie in its variety and rich flavours, but also in the peculiarity that every dish has to tell a historical chapter of the Sicilian capital. Vendors have been carefully selected, based on the quality of food and the authenticity of the location. The walk also goes through the main historical attractions of the city center, such as Piazza dei Quattro Canti, Piazza della Vergogna and the Cathedral, to give participants a complete overview of local history and culture.
