About the location
The estate is 20 km from Palermo's centre in the middle of the plateau of Piana degli Albanesi.
About the estate
Dating back to the 19th century as the home of Baron Ramione, the "Baglio", with its 13 elegant rooms, is a charming revival of ancient times. Within easy reach of splendid Palermo, the current owners, Count and Countess Marzotto, have opened their charming home for discriminating guests seeking relaxation after experiencing the wonders of Sicily. The Baglio recalls an Arab-Norman building, while its interior with its contemporary art and elegant French furnishings reflects the character of its hostess. Guests can take advantage of the renewing power of nature following the "fitness trail" through the vineyards, admiring the estates grounds and its winery, or just relaxing at the swimming pool.
About the winery
Pianetto is in Santa Cristina Gela, in the DOC Monreale area. Its vineyards are situated at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level and cover a total area of about 88 hectares, of which 40 are in production, about 25 in phase 3 and replanting of olive groves. Current varieties are the Insolia and Viognier for whites, while the Merlot and Petit Verdot occupy the entire area planted with red ones. Baglio di Pianetto balances innovation with tradition to consistently produce high quality wines. They produce 13 wines and 2 extra virgin olive oils.
First day: Palermo, Baglio
Arrive at the airport of Palermo, meet your driver and transfer to the Baglio where you will be welcomed with an aperitif served in the garden. The surrounding landscape, the vineyards, and the valleys crossing in the distance will caress your eyes. So take your time to relax and later on dinner will be served in the beautiful dining room.
Second day: Monreale, Palermo
Today we will visit Monreale, a pearl of Arab Norman art. Bible stories are represented with unique mosaic work on the walls and ceiling of the cathedral, while the pillars of the monastery are covered with tiny golden plaques. The cathedral as well as the monastery and the beautiful cloister are a breathtaking and leave people to gasp in solemn silence.
In the afternoon, after having tasted sicilian street food in our favorite place, we will walk around the historic center of Palermo. You will be flabbergasted by the density and amount of light in which this city soaks. In the mishmash of artistic styles and the confusion inherent to the city you will find it difficult to fall in love with one single style because of the constant changes you observe while walking through it. Dinner at the relais.
Third day: Harvest Time, Wine Tasting, Segesta
A good breakfast and then join the harvest. Later you will have a visit of the cellars and a guided tasting of the wines produced.
In the afternoon visit the Temple and the Theatre of Segesta. The Temple is so beautiful, it stands alone dominating a big valley; and what to say about the theatre, ancient were good at choosing the places where building their theatres.
Forth day: Cefalu’
Today you will visit the lovely Cefalù, a picturesque sea town built on a ridge overlooking a head shaped-rock, from which it found its name (Greek: kephalè). You will walk among its narrow streets and visit the Cathedral, built by the Norman king Ruggero, in 1138, was an ex voto for a shipwreck he suffered from but survived; it has two different towers, one representing temporal power, the other the spiritual one. Spend time exlporing the village historic centre.
Fifth day: Leaving
Transfer to the airport. This journey comes to an end. Hope you enjoyed it.
