Meet your English speaking guide and enjoy a guided exploration of the city. Starting from Teatro Massimo (Palermo’s Opera House), walk along via Maqueda and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the main pedestrian streets of the historical centre. During your walking tour admire “I Quattro Canti”, officially known as Piazza Vigliena, the enormous renaissance fountain of Piazza Pretoria, also known as Square of Shame, the refined Cathedral, dedicated to the Assumption of thge Virgin Mary. Crossing Villa Bonanno reach the Royal Palace and visit the wonderful Palatine Chapel, the royal chapel of the Norman kings of The Kingdom of Sicily, considered by Guy de Maupassant ““the most surprising religious jewel of human thought created by an artist.” The chapel is adorned with extraordinary Norman-Byzantine mosaics and it is a great symbol of multi-cultural cooperation and coexistence, being the result of the combined work of muslim and catholic craftsmen, resulting in Byzantine mosaics, declined according to Islamic ornamental models… adorning a catholic church!
